CCM maps geo-locations of all fish landing beaches in Ghana
The Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) at the University of Cape Coast has, for the first time in the history of Ghana, obtained the specific geographical locations of all the over 300 fish landing beaches dotted along the coast of Ghana.
The activity has been possible as part of the COVID-19 intervention activity, an extension of the Sustainable Fisheries Management Project (SFMP).
Wearing of face mask at Kormantse No. 1 heightens amidst increased COVID-19 sensitisation
Good news! It appears that the relentless efforts of site advocates at the landing beaches are beginning to yield some positive results. This was the observation of the monitoring team from the University of Cape Coast during their routine spot checks at selected fish landing beaches where the COVID-19 intervention programme is being implemented.
The team on arrival at the Kormantse No. 1 fish landing beach in the Central Region, were delighted at the scenes of improved mask wearing. According to the monitoring team, “almost everyone in the Kormantse No. 1 community was wearing a face mask” as a precautionary measure against contracting the COVID-19 disease. Fishers and individuals interviewed at the landing beach indicated that the site advocate for the SFMP COVID-19 intervention activity has been sensitising them on the COVID-19 protocols.
